The Farm

I’ve had a lot of jobs. As an adult, I moved a ton. And I get antsy when I’ve been doing the same thing for too long.

Drifting Prairie was the first, and only, name that came to me when I started this adventure. It’s of course, a play on the Driftless Area, the region in SW Wisconsin that remained untouched by the glaciers moving through, filled with remnant prairies this area is known for, and something I’ve worked to protect and manage in a previous career. It’s the place that I live and play and raise my kids in. Mostly, it’s a reminder to myself to not be fixed— in my career, a belief, the things I own. It’s a reminder to be curious and play, to drift.

I live here in with my husband and two boys. I grow specialty cut flowers—annuals, native perennials, dahlias, and peonies— intensively on about 1/2 acre, surrounded by the rest of our property that we are actively restoring to native oak savanna and prairie.
